Our friend, Emma Khan, is sadly our last feature in the series we’ve been doing the past couple months where we have women style our recent Spring Summer 2019 Collection with pieces from their own wardrobes. We hope you’ve been having fun getting to know each woman and picking up style tips, tricks, and inspiration along the way! For this last shoot, we made the drive to Red Wing to capture Emma’s favorite Spring HDH pieces against the green and hilly backdrop–a nice little retreat from our industrial St. Paul studio and surrounding area…
Emma’s favorite piece from the collection is the Button-Up Bow Top in Cream. “It’s so dreamy! But then also practical. The sleeves don’t get in the way like other longer sleeved ruffled blouses do. My other favorite is the adjustable strap striped dress. It is a perfect summer sundress and breathes quite well. It was hot that day in Red Wing!”

Meet Colleen! Colleen has worked with us in the past, but it’s rare that you’ll see her face since she’s usually behind the camera! Colleen is the talented photographer behind 2nd Truth Photography. Per our tradition this season of asking women to style pieces from our Spring Collection, Colleen put together several outfits for us, ranging from casual tomboy to chic and sophisticated. We especially love her look with the French Seam Easy Wide-Leg Pant and Lapel Open Jacket Top that can be worn both as a blazer or a blouse when overlapped and tucked in.

This week, our lead seamstress and production design coordinator, Elsie, styled a handful of our new Spring releases! Elsie is an avid thrifter in her free time, so we knew she’d come up with some fun ways to accessorize. We love her thrifted straw hat and button-downs that she amazingly alters to make them fit just the way she wants. I guess you can say we’re lucky to have Elsie on our team?
Meet Emma Olson, the second half of Hazel & Rose, along with business partner, Bobbi Barron. Hazel & Rose is one of our favorite local Minneapolis boutiques, and just happens to also carry a great variety of sustainable and ethical brands, in addition to a beautifully curated selection of vintage clothing. Hazel & Rose continues to stay committed to size inclusivity and growing their vintage assortment, so be sure to stop by if you’re in the area! Hazel & Rose is also offering $25 off a purchase of $125 or more with checkout code HDHSS19 through 4/23/19.
With our new Spring Collection that we released in late January, we asked Emma to accessorize and style her favorite pieces and invite us into the shop for a few photos. You can shop all of Emma’s favorite pieces from the collection here. “I love anything that highlights my waist like the Button-Up Swing Drawstring Dress in black and the Tie Dress in black. They’re such classic silhouettes and I feel like I can wear them everywhere.”
Our friend Marlo chose her favorite pieces from our Spring Collection and styled them as she would normally! Marlo chose a lot of one-piece dresses and jumpers that don’t require a lot, but we love her use of jewelry and fun shoes that make each ensemble a little more personal. (You can shop Marlo’s earrings by Annika Kaplan here.) Her favorite piece from the shoot was the Short-Sleeve Reversible Wrap Jumper in black that can be worn with a crewneck in front and v-neck in back, or vice versa. “I also felt like it could easily be worn casually or dressed up. I felt so elegant in it!”
Marlo works alongside business partner, Angie, at PAIKKA, a modern and industrial event venue located right next to our studio! It’s a beautiful space, and is where we hosted our HDH Bridal launch a few years ago. Learn more about PAIKKA here.
We invited our friend Chloe to help bring her personal style to our new Spring Collection! You might recognize Chloe from the little film we made with Calvin Brue a couple of summers ago to promote HDH Swim. 😉
Chloe runs Partager, a little vintage and preloved designer wares shop, so was naturally able to assemble some fun and timeless looks with pieces from her own closet. Chloe’s favorite look she created for the shoot was with the Lapel Open Jacket Top. “I was immediately drawn to it, for the fabric and color, but also how seamlessly it fit into my wardrobe. I loved the look of the faded orange tag Levi’s and brown suede boots with the top tucked in like a blouse.”
We personally love the variety of textures and colors from this shoot–everything from black leather pants to silk slips in light pink and royal blue.

We love how Jessica styled pieces from our recent Spring Collection with items from her own closet! This shoot in particular really highlights the versatility in the Spring Collection and how a pair of pants such as our French Seam Easy Wide-Leg Pant work just as well with a more tailored and elegant top such as our Short Balloon Sleeve Reversible Wrap Top as it does with a graphic tee and a pair of chucks.
Jessica’s favorite look she created from the collection was with our Button-Up Balloon Pant Jumper in Tapenade and her own leather belt and Birkenstocks. Such an easy summer outfit! For such a simple piece, there are also so many variations of ways it can be worn that involve layering, adding your own accessories/belts, or unbuttoning a few buttons on top.

Meet Dahlia! Dahlia is the founder of the beautiful St. Paul boutique, Idun. We photographed Dahlia in her favorite pieces from our new Spring Core Collection, all styled and accessorized by Dahlia herself. Especially with pieces that feature buttons, it’s fun to see how a piece such as the Button-Up Tunic Dress can transform when buttoned all the way up versus unbuttoned a little, versus unbuttoned all the way as a coverup.
If you find yourself in the twin cities, be sure to say hi to Dahlia at Idun, where you can find a beautiful collection of new and interesting designer clothing and home objects.
Typically, we release one lookbook per season with one model, one photographer, etc. Since we’re putting an extra emphasis this season on size variety and adjustability in this collection, we asked a handful of women to choose their favorite garments from the collection and style them with pieces from their own wardrobes.
Meet Talin! After years of traveling and living abroad, Talin has settled in Minneapolis as a designer and founder of Spring Finn & Co, an American-made leather bags and accessories company.
It was also fun to see our SS19 pieces paired with pieces from Talin’s personal wardrobe, and against the backdrop of her cozy studio.
As always, I strive to design clothing that will become favorites–pieces that are as unique and versatile as the women who wear them. I’ve always been drawn to pieces that can be worn multiple ways whether they are reversible, easy to layer, or can be tied in variable styles. It is this versatility in clothing that allows these garments to be worn again and again, hopefully becoming staples in any closet.
It has also always been super important for me to cater to all body shapes and sizes. In this most recent collection, you will notice a handful of pieces available in sizes XS through Plus 4. You’ll also see several pieces that include adjustable features (straps, waistbands, etc.) that accommodate a range of body types and can be adjusted to the wearer’s comfort.
Getting dressed in the morning shouldn’t be a chore, and I truly believe that feeling confident when getting dressed is one of the best ways to start your day! Despite being in the fashion industry, I never take it too seriously. I look at my own wardrobe at home as a playground for mixing and matching, whether with our own HDH pieces, or with garments that I found elsewhere (especially vintage or thrifted clothes!).
While most all of the new releases this season can easily be worn together, I get most excited to see how customers introduce the pieces to their own wardrobes, which is what sparked this season’s lookbook series.
Typically, we release one lookbook per season with one model, one photographer, etc. Since I’m putting an extra emphasis this season on size variety and adjustability in this collection, we asked a handful of women to choose their favorite garments from the collection and style them with pieces from their own wardrobes. We’re talking everything from graphic band tees to vintage leather pants. We’ve never seen so many sides to HDH, and it was so fun!
With that said, over the next few months, we’ll be showcasing each of these women on the blog and our weekly newsletter.
After asking nine women to participate, I begrudgingly thought it was only fair for me to do the same (being much more comfortable behind the camera than in front). Colleen Eversman of 2nd Truth Photography and I traveled over to my parents’ farm in rural Wisconsin to shoot some of my favorite pieces. I hope you love the collection as much as I do and thank you for all your support!
