Meet Maryanne Moodie, a New York transplant with a exquisite talent for weaving and our latest Maker’s Alongside collaborator.
With 11 years of teaching already under her belt, Maryanne began exploring and teaching the craft of weaving almost four years ago. Since then she has completed commissions, projects and collections for private and commercial clients. On top of that, she does anything she can to get people who are interested in weaving on the right path, whether that be making and selling beginner kits or demonstrating techniques.
Maryanne is someone who could never keep still, “I had too much energy to simply focus on one career path.” This is entirely evident based simply on her impressive background in art, styling, fashion, teaching and costume. This energy has enabled her to almost always run some kind of business from which she has gained invaluable knowledge and experience. More importantly, her past has helped her to find her tribe and figure out ways to support her community of small businesses near and far. In fact, we were pleased to hear that one of Maryanne’s favorite go-to outfits is one of our own, the overalls from a past HDH X Na Nin collaboration.
Until 2013, Maryanne’s studio was based in Melbourne when she moved to New York. Currently, she finds a lot of her inspiration in the city with the turning of the seasons and the energy that surrounds them, “I feel that there is always a feeling of expectation, anticipation and celebration in the air.” Other notable sources of inspiration for her woven tapestries are contemporary art, couture, architecture and her own nostalgia.
We are very excited to be featuring Maryanne and her beautiful work! Purchase any of the four one-of-a-kind woven tapestries for $550 on our website. You can also find Maryanne on Etsy, Instagram, Tumblr and Twitter or contact her via email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
