Limited Edition

These four flattering V-neck tops are released today! Wear the Vance Top with your favorite pair of skinny jeans, topped with a summer straw hat and simple black sandals (our sandals are from Envy). We love the unique silhouette with the longer front and shorter back. The short slit in the front is a fun detail, but overlaps enough where you don’t have to wear anything underneath if you don’t want to.imageThe Skyler Top, Marie Top and Lydia Top are made from the same cotton blend material, ranging in colors from a light brown to a warm brown with a deep charcoal gray in the middle. Makers Alongside

Introducing our seventh piece in our Makers Alongside series–a lovely, brass cuff made by The Things We Keep, located and made in New York City. The delicate and simple shape makes it the ideal every-day accessory, and the softly textured wire bent around the front adds beautiful detail to the hand-forged piece. We also love the eye and hook feature, making it easy to hook or slip on and off.

We will be releasing 25 of these pretty cuffs for $108 on August 6th, so mark your calendars! 🙂

Add some texture and flare to your summer whites with these three new beautiful tops that are released today! The Melissa Top is made with a soft cotton blend, accented with a bleach-dyed pattern and seam down the middle. Its wider sleeves allow for room to move around in. We paired the Melissa Top with a Parc Boutique necklace, skinny jeans, and Sven clogs. imageThe Danielle Top’s off-white color creates a soft look for summer with cute capped sleeves. We paired it with a Parc Boutique necklace, gold bangles, black cigarette pants, and black Sven clogs.imageWe love the clean look of the Charlie Dress. imageIt’s time to strip down to the basics with the HDH Basics Tank, essential for any layered look. Released August 25th, the Basics Tank works well with any of our other Limited Edition pieces such as our Millie Kimono, but also creates a sophisticated look on its own. Makers Alongside: Joy Sunyoung Fitzgerald / / Made by Sohn

Makers Alongside

Meet Joy Sunyoung Fitzgerald, the creative artist behind our newest Makers Alongside project, the inspirational “Remember Your True North” prints. Joy has been drawing since she was only one and a half years old and recalls becoming especially fascinated with lettering in second grade. She soon became obsessed with penmanship and fonts. “I would actually stress out quite a bit when starting a notebook–what pen would I use? Would I write in all caps or cursive? What font would be best for this subject?” Such questions might not be normal for a typical young student, however her curious perfectionist tendencies paid off. image

Joy admits that she never considered doing anything creative as a profession, especially without any formal training. However, in late 2010, she began to post random sketches on a hand-written, hand-drawn blog. Although it started off with a low follower rate, the blog acted as a carefree outlet where she could express her creativity. Eventually, people began inquiring Joy for paid gigs, which was totally new for Joy, who illustrated for pure personal joy. “Over the next year, I slowly began building confidence that I could actually have a business fulfilling people’s needs through my illustration and calligraphy." 

Her business, Made by Sohn, that offers custom-made prints, invitations, and more, officially launched in Fall, 2012. Her pieces have a consistent calm and clean vibe, which reflect what she finds most inspiring: peaceful surroundings, intention, overlooked details, quality, simplicity, scripture and hope. image

You can find Joy’s work on her website, but as of now, she only does custom jobs. However, keep your eyes peeled within the next year for an online store that sells her prints and other goods. She will also be creating designs for a children’s clothing company based in San Francisco that will be available for purchase once it launches later this year. Her favorite HDH designs are the Beurre Tunic and the Elsie Kimono.

Events

We had such a blast at our Tasseltry Making event on Sunday—so many friendly faces and beautiful tasseltries! We loved seeing the different interpretations in each of the wonderful creations. We’re not going to lie…the gelato pops from Talenti were such a bonus and kept our creative juices flowing! (Thanks Talenti!)  Their Salted Caramel and Tahitian Vanilla Bean flavors are mouth-watering delicious. Thanks to all of the lovely ladies who joined us! 🙂

The Ellis Dress and Lamy Dress are out and ready to be worn all day and all night! We created a beautiful daytime look with the Lamy Dress, pairing it with an Isobell Designs necklace, Sven clogs, a straw bag, and some brown sunglasses, alongside an awesome bike from Handsome Cycles. For an evening look, we paired our black Ellis Dress with black heels and a Mineralogy necklace. Don’t forget the red lipstick and cocktail! 🙂

Coming August 25th, a new line from Hackwith Design House: HDH Basics

Most of us are familiar with that shirt or dress that brings out our individuality, making us feel most like ourselves, most at ease. With such a piece, we are able to go confidently through the day while focusing on the more important things in life: performing well at work, connecting with friends, or enjoying a night out.

My goal when designing HDH Basics is to fill your closet with such pieces: simple, elegant, and versatile. HDH Basics will always be in stock on our website, offered in black and off-white with other colors available seasonally. Each piece is made by hand in our Minneapolis studio with great attention to detail and precision, making them quality garments that will work seamlessly into your everyday wardrobe.

HDH Basics is also designed with the idea that women’s bodies are as diverse as their skills, talents, and accomplishments. Thus, Basics will be offered in a range of sizes, all of which will drape beautifully. HDH Basic’s simple aesthetic is meant to encourage you to incorporate your personal style and creativity when wearing them effortlessly day or night. They are also perfect to pair with any of our Limited Edition pieces or are just as beautiful on their own.
